Digital Music Assignments Week of May 4, 2020

Good morning all, I hope these find you still safe and having some fun. Thank all of you who sent in graduation song ideas. There were some very cool new ones you found! Thank you for sharing, they made my week. As for this week, sorry for the late posting, between some tech issues and the storm damage, it’s been a bit rougher than expected. Hopefully, you’ll find something interesting for you here-we’ve got at least one per grade level for May the Fourth! Please do not stress them in any way. If I can help, please reach out to me by email at stigginsl@smithcoedu.net OR leave a message at school and they will relay to me. Regardless how you get in touch, just know we can figure this out! Please know I am thinking of you and missing you all! Stay safe!!!

~Ms. Stiggins

#2 - This week you will play a music math game. You will need to find some instruments or ‘found sounds’ around your house. It lists drum, agogo bell, triangle, wood block, but you can substitute sounds from around the house, such as  spoons, bells, chopsticks, foot stomps, hand claps, tapping cooking pot, zippers, etc. The directions say four different sounds, but you could add more sounds and numbers as you get better at the game. Follow the directions for the game and have some fun!!!!

Directions:

Begin by deciding which instruments go with what number. (Drum for 1, bell for 2, triangle for 3, spoons for 4, etc.) Practice striking the correct instrument for its correct number. When that seems strong, play two different sounds. Then to get the answer, the other person needs to add those numbers up and play the instrument/sound that represents their total. This can be played with as many instruments and numbers as you want. Additionally, you can do addition, subtraction, multiplication to make it more challenging. Do some math practice while making some music!
