The Board of Education, after careful consideration, has decided to let flower shops deliver with the following rules: minimize trips, deliver only from 8 till 11, mask and gloves are required. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you to all of the family who have participated in the Loving the Library Christmas project. We have received lots of new books for the library that students will be able to check out starting in January. We were gifted 3 sets of Boxcar Children’s Books that we would love to have labeled in honor of the kid who donated. If you donated these to the library please email Dr. Rogers at amy.rogers@smithcoedu.net.

Thank you all for loving on GES library for Christmas. If you still would like to purchase you can at https://a.co/4XKjiyQ . If you purchase please send Dr. Rogers an email (amy.rogers@smithcoedu.net) and let her know what was purchases and for who. This way we can make sure the dedication is correct in each of the books.

Good Morning GES Families! We are missing your kids smiling faces at school today. Please take a picture of your child participating in remote learning and post it in the comments here. Dr. Rogers is working on the yearbook and wants to document this year for the students.

The safety and health of our students has been and remains a top priority this year. Due to the recent increase in the positivity rate in our county and our school system, which has affected both students and employees, the Smith County School System feels that a return to a hybrid schedule is necessary at this time. The new schedule will begin on Monday, November 30 and remains in effect until February 12. See the attached schedule for more information concerning your student’s grade level. Please note that Wednesday will serve as a remote learning day for all students county wide. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s teacher or call the school office. Thank you for your help and support in this unprecedented time.

There will be NO SCHOOL for ALL SMITH COUNTY STUDENTS Monday, 11/23, and Tuesday, 11/24, before the Thanksgiving break due to limited teacher/staff availability and significant student absences related to COVID-19 illness/exposure. After Thanksgiving Break, beginning Monday, November 30, IN-PERSON students will begin a hybrid schedule that will run through Friday, February 12. The 2020-21 school calendar has not been altered and all breaks and holidays will be observed as previously scheduled. Please check your child’s home school website for a detailed schedule.

GES 2020/21
You have two options how your child can be educated this year. You can only pick one for the first semester. 1 Traditional with possible remote learning, OR 2 Virtual.
1. TRADITIONAL- Students will attend school based on the school schedule. When students are not at school, our teachers will provide them with assignments to aid in continuous learning. We want to not only teach our kids academically, but keep our students in small groups to acclimate them to the new routines of school. Many have asked if this schedule is just for August. As of right now, yes it is. In the event we have to go remote, students will be given chrome books if needed. Teachers will load lessons into google classroom and provide various learning opportunities for the students. We will be available to answer questions. If you do not have internet, they will load lessons to a flash drive for students to have the same quality instruction as those with internet. Grades will be taken during this time. We love our GES families and will do our best to work with you.
2. Virtual - The other form of education for your child is Virtual Learning. This is all online and the program is called Odysseyware. You have to have internet availability to have this program. There are previous posts explaining this. The guardian signs a Virtual Learning contract found on the district website. The student may still check out a Chromebook if needed but no longer physically attends GES. The teacher assigned to help your child when working on this program will probably NOT be a GES teacher but an Odysseyware tutor.
The Virtual contract must be signed and submitted to the school by July 24. The student may still participate in GES activities while on Virtual.

To minimize the amount of people in the building at once, we will have four, 45 minutes rotations for parent to meet with teachers. Parents can also complete online registration for their students if they have not completed the process.
Students with last names:
S-Z will attend from 8:00- 8:45
M-R will attend from 8:45:9:30
G-L will attend from 9:30-10:15
A-F will attend from 10:15-11:00
Buses will not run on August 5. We ask that only one guardian/parent attend with the student. Please do not bring younger siblings to the informational sessions. It is extremely important to attend this half day for us to get information from teachers and for us to get an accurate count of students who will be attending GES for the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. Frye at NMS and I have worked together to coordinate this day to make it easier for our families. If you see a conflict, please let us know and we will work it out as best we can.
Class rosters and schedules will be posted as soon as possible; however, it will be after the July 24 Virtual Learning deadline. We apologize for the delay, but we promise you we are working diligently to provide a safe environment for our parents, students, and teachers. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Rachel Kelley at rkelley2@smithcoedu.net. Thank you for your support and patience. We look forward to seeing you on August 5!

Smith County Board of Education has released the virtual learning contract for the 2020-2021 school year. If you choose the virtual learning path, please have this contract filled out, signed, and returned to GES by July 24, 2020. Be sure to read the contract carefully. You can return the contract by faxing to GES (615-683-8253), emailing Mrs. Rachel Kelley at rkelley2@smithcoedu.net, or leaving a copy in the school mailbox (be sure to email or message the facebook page if you leave a copy in the mailbox). Odysseyware is the program being used for Virtual Learning. If you choose the virtual path, your child will not need to attend the half day on August 5.
Please let us know if you have any questions and we will do our best to answer any questions that might arise. Thank for your patience.

Smith County Schools are implementing preventive measures in regards to the Coronavirus. We want our staff, students, and parents to know we are taking the recommended CDC and TDOE prevention guidelines. Our staff is sanitizing schools and buses daily and thoroughly cleaning frequently touched surfaces and stocking schools with extra soap, paper towels, and disinfectant wipes. Teachers will be allowing more time for hand-washing and the school system has provided guidance to principals to help support them in making the best possible decisions for their students, school, and community.

We are excited to announce our new website! The Live Feed is where you can find important updates and fun stories about what's happening in school. We hope you enjoy the new site and find it easy to navigate!
