The Smith County Board of Education recently announced that Scott Apple has been appointed as the new principal at Smith County High School for the 2022-2023 school year.

After graduating from Smith County High School in 1989, Mr. Apple went on to attend Tennessee Technological University, graduating in 1993 with a degree in Accounting; he later returned to Tennessee Tech and received a Master of Arts degree in Instructional Leadership in 2003.

Mr. Apple first taught in Wilson County for two years before returning to SCHS, where he has taught Social Studies – primarily American Government – for the past 21 years. In addition to educating students in the classroom, Mr. Apple has previously served as an assistant basketball coach for 7 years, head basketball coach for 3 years, and coach for both boys and girls soccer for 3 years. Since 2015, Mr. Apple has served as the Athletic Director at SCHS.

Mr. Apple states: “I am excited for the opportunity to join the administration at SCHS. We have a great school and community to represent. The faculty and students at SCHS are some of the finest people around. We will strive every day to do our best to exceed expectations and provide a safe, welcoming environment for every person who enters SCHS. Our students and parents deserve our best, and we intend to deliver exactly what they need to excel.”

Director of Schools, Barry Smith told SCI, “Smith County Schools has been blessed to have good leaders in the previous administrations and appreciate their dedication and hard work for our schools. We are excited to welcome the new administrations and ready for them to lead their respective schools in their new positions for the 2022-23 school year.”
