Stanley Wills Weight Facility

Friday night GHS honored Coach Stanley Wills with a ceremony recognizing his contributions to Gordonsville High School with the naming of the Weight Facility in his honor.

Coach Wills taught and coached at GHS from 1970 till 2000. During that time he coached almost every sport at GHS at the High School and Middle School level.

So many people have said over the years that Gordonsville always had a football team, but they never had a program until Coach Ford came home. Coach Wills was with Coach Ford every step of the way. He served as an assistant football coach from 1970-1986 with Coach Ford, Coach Medley and Coach Winfree. During that time the Tigers won 129 games, made many bowl appearances, made the school’s first ever playoff appearance, State Runner-ups in 1983, State Champions in 1984, and was a part of 3 undefeated teams, the last ones in school history. After stepping away for a few years he answered a need in 1993 and took the Head Coaching job for 7 years, he brought stability back to the program and made the playoffs each year he was the head coach.

Coach Wills impact was felt throughout other sports as he coached basketball as the head coach and as an assistant for many of those years. He helped begin the first softball program in school history and made a sub-state appearance in that first year.

Coach WIlls was always more concerned with journey than the destination, he worried about the work that was put in and felt the results would come from the hard work in the off season. Tonight we would like to thank Coach WIlls for all of the hard work and dedication he gave to Gordonsville High School, and to let you know that you will always be remembered when our athletes go to the weight room they will see the sign reading Stanley Wills Weight Facility and understand the impact you had at Gordonsville High School. We would like to thank Coach Wills for all that he have done for Gordonsville High School and say thank you for all of the lives he has touched.
