GHS Grades 7-11 Information-Updated 4/24/20

  • Smith County Schools are officially closed for the remainder of the school year, however the COVID-19 Learning Plan which has been developed to continue to provide learning opportunities and nutritious meals for Smith County Students will stay in effect until May 22, 2020.  Academic lessons/assignments will conclude the week of Monday, May 11 through Friday, May 15, 2020.  The last meals will be available on Monday, May 18, 2020.  Meals will continue to be available on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. at each school.  More information regarding the summer feeding program will be forthcoming.
  • 3rd nine week grades were closed as of March 13 (GHS last day in school) and counted as the second-semester grade. No final exams will be given. Per Tennessee State Board Meeting (4/9/20)- No student can receive a grade lower than the grade they had on March 13, 2020.  Students may be given opportunities to raise their grade.  Students that are failing a course (S1 and S2 avg is less than 70 as of March 13th) must be given grading opportunities to achieve a passing grade and earn credit for the course.  Students that are passing a course (grade above 70 as of March 13th) may complete **assignments/grading opportunities to raise their 3rd 9 weeks average. **These are not required and cannot make a student’s grade drop below the grade the student had on March 13, 2020.
  • If students in grades 9-11 would like to improve their 2nd semester grades, your teachers are available to work with you to complete this work. Please reach out to your teacher.  If you are unable to contact the teacher, please contact your guidance counselor for assistance. Teacher’s emails can be found in the Google classroom set up for each particular class or on the school website under staff, https://www.smithcoedu.com/o/gordonsville-high/staff.
  • If students in grades 9-11 are failing a class and need to pull up the grade, their teacher will be in contact with them in order to receive make-up work in order to receive the credit in that class. There will be no summer school this year, so this is your only opportunity to earn your credit. It would be a good idea for students to reach out to teachers as well in an email through Google classroom or the school website, https://www.smithcoedu.com/o/gordonsville-high/staff.
  • TCAP/TNReady Testing which includes TNReady assessments, EL learner assessments, alternate TCAP assessments, and EOC assessments will not be required this spring semester.
  • Lunch balances-call 615-735-2321 and speak to the Nutrition Dept.Parents can pay in person at the SCBOE via cash or check or online at k12payment.com
  • Students will receive instructions about registering for next year’s classes through Google Classroom  (Make sure you have joined your particular grade level classroom and check this often.).   • Library books and completed paper materials can be dropped off at GHS Library on Mondays or Thursdays from 9:00 till 12:00.
  • Students return library books, chrome books, textbooks, school items and pick up personal items-May 15-May 22.  On the day assigned, students can pick up report cards.

  • Free ACT Practice Test Online-Students take advantage of this opportunity with feedback on the test you take. Applerouth is offering students the opportunity to take previously released SAT and ACT practice tests for free. Practice tests will be online and proctored to offer students the most realistic test day experience. Afterwards, each student will receive a detailed score report, access to a webinar on understanding their scores, a private phone consultation with a Program Advisor to create a targeted study plan, and access a strategy session led by one of our top tutors.   • Due to school closure, there will be no summer school.  Students will be given grade opportunities to earn passing grades and course credit for 2019-2020.
