Our 3rd and 4th Grade boys' basketball coaches would like to have their first practice Wednesday, August 18th from 5:30-6:30. Normally, we do not practice on Wednesday afternoon, but we are trying to get everything started. They will need to have appropriate shorts and shoes for practice. You can drop the players off at the breezeway door and pick them up there when it is over. There will be a parent meeting at the next practice.

Please see the message below in regards to GES Schedule tomorrow. Remember buses will not run tomorrow.
The first day of school for all Smith County students is August 4, 2021. This is a half day for students. GES will follow a staggered schedule again this year to allow smaller meetings between parents, students, and teachers. We will be having our Open House during this time; therefore, please feel free to tour the building prior to or after your meeting. The meetings with your homeroom teacher will be scheduled by last name as follows:
M-R 8:00-8:30
S-Z 8:30-9:00
A-F 9:00-9:30
G-L 9:30-10:00
We are working with NMS to try and make a schedule that will allow parents with kids at both schools to attend these meetings. Teachers will be providing you with important information so it is very important you attend. If you have a conflict, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher for an alternate meeting time. Buses will not run on this day. As on other half days, breakfast will not be served. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at rkelley2@smithcoedu.net. We look forward to seeing you on August 4.

Gordonsville Elementary School has once again received a grant from the TN 21st Century Community Center for a before and after school enrichment program. Tigers Den will be held every morning, Monday through Friday from 6:45 am until 7:45 am, and Monday through Thursday in the afternoon from 2:45 pm until 5:00 pm. You may apply for your student to attend mornings, afternoons, or both by following the link and completing the form. This program is offered to all students at GES and will begin on August 16, 2021.

TIMELINE FOR RETURN TO FULL-TIME IN-PERSON LEARNING
Our goal for our students, employees, and families has always been to provide the best quality education while keeping health and safety a priority. Our original plan was for all students to return to in-person learning on February 16th. After careful consideration and consultation with local health officials, review of CDC guidelines, and input from school personnel, Smith County Schools has developed a plan to safely return students to in-person learning. All Smith County Schools’ grades 3rd and 4th will be returning to in-person learning 4 days per week (M, T, TH, F) at all schools on February 4th. Our goal is to bring all Pre-K through 12th grade students to in-person learning 5 days per week beginning Monday, March 15th. The uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic and local COVID metrics could alter this return date. Unless modified by this announcement, the student will remain on their current schedule until March 15th. This timeline will also allow Smith County Board of Education employees the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
The State of Tennessee is requiring all school districts to administer TNReady assessments. The testing window for Smith County students, 2nd through 12th grade, will begin April 12th. Resuming in-person classes on March 15th will allow students and staff time to establish routines and prepare for state testing.
Students enrolled in the Virtual Academy will remain in the virtual program according to their contract commitment.
The Smith County Board of Education reserves the right to modify these schedules as necessary to ensure the safety and health of our students and employees.
Dates to Remember

Thank you to all of the family who have participated in the Loving the Library Christmas project. We have received lots of new books for the library that students will be able to check out starting in January. We were gifted 3 sets of Boxcar Children’s Books that we would love to have labeled in honor of the kid who donated. If you donated these to the library please email Dr. Rogers at amy.rogers@smithcoedu.net.
