We appreciate our families' patience and flexibility as we make decisions to support our students and staff in this evolving environment. District staff has been working diligently to determine the best plan to safely re-open schools. We have studied plans of similar districts, are consulting daily with local health officials and other districts to help develop the best plan for Smith County students. We have prepared a survey to collect input from our stakeholders. The survey is available at: https://docs.google.com/forms/u/1/d/e/1FAIpQLSfNbe_ezyEMz-agjH8uUPYQhq44MVKIsgPGkZuSqYPbIOgd-g/viewform?usp=sf_link

The Smith County Extended Learning Program (before or after school) is offering a summer virtual Freshmen Bridge Program. The virtual program will be conducted through Smith County High/Gordonsville High for students who were in the 8th grade during the 2019-2020 school year. Beginning Tuesday May 26, 2020, a schedule of activities will be available for students to participate in daily. This program will continue through June 12, 2020. These activities will include virtual field trips of both high schools, STEM activities, CTE activities, Coding, and other fun core curriculum activities! There are two ways to get involved: virtual classroom or paper packets. If students get involved using the Google classroom , I will send a link requesting them to join. They can access this through their regular school Google accounts, where all of their other core classes are located. For those needing paper packets, these will be available on Monday and Thursdays at Smith County High School during the Summer feeding hours for pick up. We believe participating in this enrichment will be a valuable tool for students. Our world has been disrupted in so many ways during this time. The goal of this enrichment is to encourage and inspire students entering high school in the fall of 2020 and to familiarize them with the school sites as well as the opportunities offered by each high school through academics and CTE programming. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Krissa Hackett via email at krissa.hackett@smithcoedu.net

Smith County High School is excited to announce that we will host a modified graduation ceremony on Friday, May 15th at 7:30 PM at Owl Stadium. Alternate dates for inclement weather are Saturday, May 16th and Monday, May 18th. Members of the class of 2020 will be allowed two (2) guests per graduate. Guests will be given a COVID-19 questionnaire, screened for temperature, and required to wear a mask. Masks will be given to any guest that does not have one. Graduates or their guests that have had a positive COVID-19 test or are experiencing fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell will not be allowed to enter. Guests must have a ticket to enter. We understand that this is an important milestone for our graduates and their families and hosting in-person graduation ceremonies in a timely manner is important. While limiting guests to (2) per graduate is not ideal for our graduates and their families, it is necessary to ensure that Smith County Schools are following the COVID-19 social distancing guidelines set forth by Governor Lee. Students will receive their tickets/questionnaires on Friday, May 8 from 9-11 when students pick up cap and gowns, stoles, cords, top 10 plaques, and perfect attendance plaques. Administration is still finalizing the details of the ceremony. More information will follow.
