Parents/Guardian-A skylert message has been sent to guardians of students failing a class or classes at Smith County High School. Work has been placed in Google Classroom for several weeks for students to complete. This work must be completed and turned in by tomorrow, Friday, May 15 between 9:00 AM-12:00 noon. If you have requested paper copies, these must be turned back in to school in order to get grades between the hours of 9 AM-12 noon tomorrow. If you have questions about your particular class, please email your individual teacher. You can find emails on Google Classroom or at the following link, https://www.smithcoedu.com/o/smith-county-high/staff. Please call the school for any other questions, 615-735-9219.

SCHS STUDENTS
The anticipated ship date for our yearbooks will be the week of May 25, 2020. Also, yearbooks can still be purchased. We will be selling until all copies have sold out. These are available for purchase until they are sold out. You can order online through the school website under the yearbook tab, https://www.smithcoedu.com/o/smith-county-h…/…/yearbook--247.

Smith County High School is excited to announce that we will host a modified graduation ceremony on Friday, May 15th at 7:30 PM at Owl Stadium. Alternate dates for inclement weather are Saturday, May 16th and Monday, May 18th.
Members of the class of 2020 will be allowed two (2) guests per graduate. Guests will be given a COVID-19 questionnaire, screened for temperature, and required to wear a mask. Masks will be given to any guest that does not have one. Graduates or their guests that have had a positive COVID-19 test or are experiencing fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell will not be allowed to enter.
Guests must have a ticket to enter. We understand that this is an important milestone for our graduates and their families and hosting in-person graduation ceremonies in a timely manner is important. While limiting guests to (2) per graduate is not ideal for our graduates and their families, it is necessary to ensure that Smith County Schools are following the COVID-19 social distancing guidelines set forth by Governor Lee. Students will receive their tickets/questionnaires on Friday, May 8 from 9-11 when students pick up cap and gowns, stoles, cords, top 10 plaques, and perfect attendance plaques. Administration is still finalizing the details of the ceremony. More information will follow.

SCHS Virtual Music Banque
The Smith County Music Department will be hosting their annual banquet on May 11th at 5:30 via Facebook live. Choir, Band and Winterguard students will be honored and seniors will be recognized for their accomplishments this year. Look for Smith County Music Department on Facebook and tune in!

This information is for incoming 9th grade students to SCHS (students in 8th grade who plan to come to SCHS).
SCHS has set up a Google Classroom for incoming 9th grade students. All students need to join as we will be announcing information concerning registration for classes and any other important news. To join, students will need to sign in to Google Classroom using their school email. Once in Google Classroom, students will need to click on the plus symbol (+) and choose to join a class. Students will then add the class code zcb64at. We will be placing class registration information in there soon. Please share to get word out for these incoming students.

The 3rd nine week grades were closed as of March 13 (SCHS last day in school) and counted as the second-semester grade. No final exams will be given. Per Tennessee State Board Meeting (4/9/20)- No student can receive a grade lower than the grade they had on March 13, 2020. Students may be given opportunities to raise their grade. Students that are failing a course (S1 and S2 avg is less than 70 as of March 13th) must be given grading opportunities to achieve a passing grade and earn credit for the course. If students are failing a class and need to recover any credits, their teacher will be in contact with them in order to receive make-up work in order to receive the credit in order to graduate. It would be a good idea for students to reach out to teachers as well in an email if you have not heard from them soon. This may be due to the phone numbers SCHS has on file.
Students that are passing a course (grade above 70 as of March 13th) may complete **assignments/grading opportunities to raise their 3rd 9 weeks average. **These are not required and cannot make a student’s grade drop below the grade the student had on March 13, 2020. If students would like to improve their 2nd semester grades, your teachers are available to work with you to complete this work. Please reach out to your teacher. If you are unable to contact the teacher, please contact your guidance counselor for assistance. Teacher’s emails can be found in the Google classroom set up for each particular class or on the school website under staff, https://www.smithcoedu.com/o/smith-county-high/staff.

Due to current circumstances there have been some changes to the FFA greenhouse sale and fern order. We are taking precautions to ensure the safety of our students and community. The ferns ordered through the students have been cancelled. There can be no student interaction with the public on behalf of Smith County High School or the Smith County FFA chapter. At this time, the greenhouse sale has been postponed until further notice. A limited number of ferns will be available for purchase when the greenhouse sale takes place. This fundraiser has always been one of our favorite events because it allows us to interact with our community. Unfortunately it is not safe to do so at this time. We hope to see you soon, but the safety of our students and our community is our top priority. Thank you for your continued support of the Smith County FFA chapter. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mr. Foster at wfoster1@smithcoedu.net.
