Virtual Students: Remember that the deadline to return the Virtual Learning Contract for the Spring 2021 semester is tomorrow, December 4. In order to continue virtual learning, this contract must be completed and returned to your child's virtual teacher or Mr. Scott Murray, Virtual Academy Principal. The basketball game at Upperman on December 8 will be a girls only game. The boys game has been postponed. We will post the rescheduled date for the boys game as soon as it is decided.
Friday night's basketball games against Gordonsville have been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
SOLD OUT: All tickets for tonight's home basketball have been sold. There are no more tickets available, and there will be no tickets available at the door.
Tickets for tomorrow night's basketball game against Red Boiling Springs will be presold at SCHS on Tuesday, December 1, from 9:00 - 2:00 or until they are sold out. Any remaining tickets will be available at the gate. In the event that all tickets are sold during the presale period, an announcement will be made on our website and social media.
There will be NO SCHOOL for ALL SMITH COUNTY STUDENTS Monday, 11/23, and Tuesday, 11/24, before the Thanksgiving break due to limited teacher/staff availability and significant student absences related to COVID-19 illness/exposure. We are doing everything we can to keep our students, staff, and families healthy. Buildings will be sprayed for sanitation during this closure. After Thanksgiving break, beginning Monday, November 30, IN-PERSON students will begin a hybrid schedule that will run through Friday, February 12. The 2020-21 school calendar has not been altered and all breaks and holidays will be observed as previously scheduled. The 14th Annual Chad's Run will be held on November 7, 2020. It will be virtual this year meaning you can walk / run anywhere you choose! Please fill out the attached form to participate!! Forms can also be found on grade level Google classrooms.
There will be a meet and greet baseball meeting for parents and players on Thursday, October 29 at 6 PM in the gym. This is a chance to meet the new baseball coach. All players and at least 1 parent are expected to attend.
Anyone who applied for and qualified for free and/or reduced lunches last year has a card with supplemental funds for missed meals during March, April, and May. Parents need to bring a form of ID to the front office to pick up the cards. You may contact the school to see if you have a card to pick up. Please take care of this ASAP, as we will be sending cards back to the state if not picked up.

Due to COVID-19, they have had to adapt their processes. They are not offering on campus tours at this time, but are working on Virtual Tours.
The Class of 2021 TN Promise application opened for student completion on August 1, 2020. Any student anticipating graduating with the Class of 2021 is encouraged to apply for the TN Promise scholarship. This includes early graduates. The deadline to apply is November 2, 2020. Students can apply online at www.tnpromise.gov. More information can be found on the grade level Google Classroom.
Parent Teacher Conferences scheduled for October 15 will be conducted remotely this year, either via phone call or Google Meet. Teachers who feel there is a need to meet with a student's parent will be in contact by email or a phone call in order to schedule a meeting time. Any parent who feels there is a need to meet with a teacher about their child can contact the teacher(s) via email to schedule a meeting time. SCHS Owls will travel to Livingston, this Friday, September 25 for the football game. Due to COVID 19 guidelines, they are limiting the number of people allowed in the stadium. We will have a limited number of tickets available that will go on sale Tuesday, September 22 from 10:00-2:00. Tickets may be bought in the front office for $7 a ticket on a first come, first serve basis.
On Friday, we will run a normal schedule. Everyone who is not in Homecoming will attend their 1st through 7th period classes. At 1:00 students may sign out with a letter from their parents. They will sign out with their 7th Period Teacher. NO one will be signing out in the office. We will NOT be accepting phone calls for students to check out of school on Homecoming Day. Once a student has signed out with their 7th period teacher, they MUST leave campus and not return.
Students who remain at school will remain in their 7th Period class until 2:55. We will NOT be going to the Gym Ceremony or to the Parade. It will be streamed live through Smith County Insider and you will watch from your 7th period classroom.
Important Dates for Juniors and Seniors:
- September 21 - Josten's will meet with juniors at 1:30 to discuss class rings.
- September 22 - All seniors will take the ACT at SCHS at 8:00 am.
- September 22 - Jostens will meet with seniors about cap and gowns at 1:30, after the ACT.
- October 1 - Josten's will be taking orders from juniors and seniors for class rings and caps & gowns during lunch.
