All of the Gordonsville bus routes will be delayed this afternoon due to the traffic from I40 being shutdown most of the day. Please be patient. Bus 68 in the town of Gordonsville will be affected the most. Carthage bus routes may also be late due to traffic on Hwy. 70 but not as late as the Gordonsville routes.

Smith County Board of Education will be closed July 3rd, 4th, and 5th for the holiday. We will resume regular hours on July 6th, 2023.
Summer learning camp starts tomorrow, June 6, 2023, at 8:00am at SCMS. Parents are welcome to attend a short orientation in the morning, and students will be dismissed at 3:00.
Buses will pick up from 7:20-7:30 at all schools, Pleasant Shade Community Center (the old school ), and the Dixon Springs stage coach store.

There have recently been certain media reports and social media discussion concerning a certified professional employee and athletic coach in the Smith County School System. Upon receipt of this report, the school system immediately launched an investigation and took appropriate action. Based on initial information received, the Director suspended the certified professional employee pending an investigation and this employee is not working in the school system. Recent media reports have detailed an arrest and the investigation is still ongoing. Despite some social media discussion indicating otherwise, the Smith County Board of Education has not met related to this matter. No formal charges regarding employment have been presented to the Board at this time. Any Board meeting or action concerning this or any other matter will be properly advertised and conducted in an open setting pursuant to the Tennessee Open Meetings Act. The Board of Education and its staff will take all action necessary to ensure student safety and protect the due process rights for all students and employees.
